Romantic Sunday Stroll

Walking is very popular at the moment and a great way to meet likeminded people in a relaxed, carefree and romantic atmosphere.

The walks will be approximately 6 to 8 miles in length around Derby, The Peak District, Staffordshire Moorlands, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, and none will be too strenuous. Strolls will be classed as either 1=Easy, 2=Moderate, some up hill or down hill walking, 3=Hard some steeper hills and rougher terrain.

Although we shall end most walks at a public house where you can get something to eat and drink I would suggest you bring a packed lunch.

Ticknall is situated just south of the river Trent, 9 miles from the City of Derby and is widely regarded as southern Derbyshire's most attractive village.

It is perhaps best known today for Calke Abbey which is the second largest stately home in Derbyshire after Chatsworth.

The house was built on the site of a 12th Century Augustinian Priory and stands in 750 acres of parkland.

The property, dubbed 'the house that time forgot', was still in private ownership, being occupied by the reclusive and eccentric Harpur-Crewes until it passed to the National Trust in 1987.

The stroll today will take in the beautiful parkland around Calke Abbey it will be approximately 6 miles and classed as a grade 1, Easy, walk.

The Wheel Inn can be found on the A514 main road through Ticknall.

The bar areas of the Wheel Inn Pub and Restaurant have a very contemporary feel, bold and bright colours with a mixture of different types of seating including luxuriant sofas - perfect for a relaxing drink. The upstairs restaurant has a similar feel, bold colours, spacious wooden seating and large floral prints on the walls.

There is a small car park at the rear, also a decked seating area to the rear of the property.

The Wheel Inn is a great place to have a relaxing and tasty meal, for a sensible price.
