Romance In The Countryside

We shall meet outside The Monsal Head Hotel at Monsal Head. Parking is available at the hotel.

Walking is very popular, a great way to get fit and perhaps meet that someone special in a relaxed, picturesque and friendly environment.

Please remember these walks are in the countryside and stout sturdy footwear is a must, some of the footpaths can be muddy and slippery after rain, also a waterproof coat is a good idea as the weather is very fickle at any time of the year. Dogs MUST be kept on a lead AT ALL TIMES, as we may pass through livestock along the walk.

The walks will be approximately 6 to 8 miles in length around Derby, The Peak District, Staffordshire Moorlands, and none will be too strenuous. Strolls will be classed as either 1=Easy, 2=Moderate, some up hill or down hill walking, 3=Hard some steeper hills and rougher terrain.

This 6 mile walk is considered to be moderate with one steep climb out of Monsal Dale. This is a beautiful river walk taking in the Monsal Viaduct.

Monsal viaduct is one of the most spectacular, and famous, features on this dramatic section of the Monsal Trail. Between 1867 and 1968 when the Midland Railway ran here, the scenic beauty of this stretch of line was one of the railway's selling points. The viaduct itself is now listed as being of 'architectural and historical interest.'

From Bakewell at Ashford in the Water take the A6020 and immediately then take a left on to the B6465. Monsal Head is situated approximately 1.5 miles further on.

It is suggested that the venue pay and display car park is used for this walk.
